BOY: Brighton senior Yoni Zuckerman won a singles match and a doubles match and in leading the Barons to a 11-0 start. He also won the Section V Class A singles title on Saturday. 

GIRL: Gananda senior catcher Sam MacFall went 7-for-12 in four wins, including a pair of doubles and a triple. Her lead-off double in the sixth inning led to her scoring the only run in a critical Wayne County win over Sodus. She also threw out two base stealers for the Panthers (13-0).

GIRL: Brockport softball's Jordan Gaisser, a senior first baseman, drove in 14 runs and batted .400 during the team's 3-3 trip to South Carolina.

BOY: McQuaid golfer, Andrew Lane, posted a 72, including a back-nine 35, to win medalist honors at Penfield Country Club in the Knights' tri-match with Penfield and Pittsford Sutherland. A two-time All-Greater Rochester pick, he has a stroke average of 35.67 in McQuaid's 5-0 start.

GIRL: Wilson track-and-field performer, Tara Murphy, won three individual events and anchored the winning 3,200-meter relay in two dual meets. She also won the 800 meters at the Hilton Spring Breakout Invitational in 2:29.58.

GIRL: Pittsford Sutherland track's MacKenzie Neal, the 2009 Class A outdoor long jump champion, triple-jumped 33½ feet at Hobart/William Smith. She also had a long jump of 15-9, tops among athletes from Class B schools and second overall.

The three-time All-Greater Rochester pick also had 20 in Friday's loss at Fairport to move into 11th place on Section V's career scoring list with 2,092.

GIRL: Pittsford Mendon's Shaylyn Tuite set a course record at Webster Park, winning Tuesday's meet against top rivals Honeoye Falls-Lima and Webster Thomas in 17:59. On Saturday, she set a course record at Genesee Community College, winning the GCC Cougar Invitational in 18:19.

Boys: Canandaigua junior attack Deven Alves scored five goals and handed out three assists as the Braves repeated as sectional champions with a 17-6 win over rival Irondequoit in the Class B championship game Friday.
 
Girls: Fairport senior midfielder Abby Runyon scored four goals, including the eventual winner in overtime as the Red Raiders earned the school's first-ever sectional girls lacrosse championship with a 14-13 win over Penfield Wednesday.

Boys: Webster Thomas junior attack Jack Hinderland scored three goals and handed out three assists during the Titans' 18-3 win over Gates Chili, and he added six goals during Webster's (2-0) 17-13 win over rival Penfield on Thursday.
 
Girls: Mercy's Schuyler Pratt scored three goals and added three assists during the Monarch's season-opening 15-8 win over Gates Chili Wednesday. Pratt followed up with three goals as Mercy (2-0) held off Waterloo 9-7 in a non-league showdown Thursday.

Girl: Newark basketball player, Marissa Bunce, has been part of the glue that helped keep the Reds together en route to winning the school's first state championship (Class A). A shooting guard who scored 1,200-plus points in her career, she did a little bit of everything for Newark.

Boy: Bishop Kearney basketball player, James Taylor. After leading the JV team in scoring last season, he came into his own this winter to give the Kings a third scorer as they won their first state title (Class B). He also scored 20 points in Friday's Federation Tournament semifinal win.

March 25, 2009:

Boys: Avon senior point guard Dan Banach scored 21 points during the Braves' 67-47 win over Randolph in the Class C state basketball quarterfinals and added 20 points during a 61-45 win over Oyster Bay as the Braves (26-1) advanced into the state championship for the first time in school history.

Girls: Newark senior Alyssa Fenyn scored 26 points with 12 rebounds and 6 assists during the Reds' 64-45 Class A state quarterfinal win over Amherst and added 10 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals in the state semifinals to move Newark (24-2) into the state championship.

Girl: Canandaigua junior point guard Ashley Zahn scored 18 points in Saturday's Class AA state quarterfinal win over Lockport and 19 points in Monday's state tournament qualifier win over Penfield.

Boy: Sophomore winger J.T. Stenglein had a hat trick in the first period of the Greece Thunder's 5-2 Division I state semifinal win against West Genesee. He also scored late in 2nd period of last weekend's 1-0 win over Ithaca in the state quarterfinals.

Boys: Batavia sophomore guard Andrew Hoy scored 25 points on seven 3-pointers during the Blue Devils' quarterfinal win over Marshall and followed that up with 27 points, including five 3-pointers, and six rebounds during Wednesday's A2 semifinal win over Geneva.

Girls: Newark senior forward Alyssa Fenyn scored 31 points with 7 steals, 4 assists and 4 rebounds as the Reds advanced into the Class A basketball championship with a 66-47 win over rival Honeoye Falls-Lima Wednesday.

Boys: Honeoye Falls-Lima senior Steve Zotter swept both the slalom and giant slalom runs at the state Alpine championships Tuesday and Wednesday to claim the Alpine combined championship at Bristol Mountain.
 
Girls: Pittsford Mendon senior guard Carly Napier connected for a school-record eight 3-pointers during the Vikings' 63-36 win over Victor Monday night. Napier followed that up with a 14-point game as Mendon advanced into the Class A sectional semis with a win over Eastridge on Thursday.

Boy: Kendall senior guard Josh Laureano scored 39 points, dished out 11 assists and grabbed 10 rebounds during a 72-67 win over Northstar. Laureano went 11 of 12 on free throws and hit four 3's in the win. Earlier in the week Laureano scored 23 points as the Eagles (12-8) defeated Lyndonville 60-45.

Girls: Greece Odyssey senior forward Kourtney Damann set a school record with 34 points during the Leopards' 62-58 non-league win over Jefferson. Damann, who had broken the scoring record three times this month, also grabbed 15 rebounds in the Odyssey (7-13) win.

Boy: Gates Chili senior Pat Manners rolled a 300-game during Thursday's Class A sectionals at AMF Gates Lanes. His six-game total was 1,303 pins. Manners' previous high game was 289.
 
Girl: Honeoye Falls-Lima senior Kelly Burgart won both of her Slalom and Giant Slalom races to claim the Section V Class A Alpine Combined championship Wednesday. Burgart's strong performances guided the Cougars to their third-straight team title.

Girl: East Rochester senior Jessenia Andujar had 21 points in a win over Clyde-Savannah and 21 points in a loss to Gananda. The guard-forward also had 26 points and 12 rebounds in a loss to North Rose-Wolcott.

Girl: Spencerport junior forward Tara Caples posted a triple-double in Friday's win over Webster Schroeder with 13 points, 16 rebounds and 14 blocks and had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Palmyra-Macedon on Tuesday.

 Boy: Wilson senior guard Eric Miles recorded a quadruple double to spark the Wildcats to a win at Gates Chili. He had 10 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals. He also had 23 points and six steals in a win over Charlotte.

Girl: Rush-Henrietta swimmer Mallory Morrell won the Section V Class A championship in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events and anchored the winning 200-yard free relay team.

Boy: Red Creek forward Ryan Fisher helped the Mules repeat as Class C state champions in soccer with two goals and assist in a 4-2 win over North Salem in the title match.

Girl: Fairport girls soccer goalkeeper, Melissa Martens, who recorded 10 saves in a 2-0 win in the state semifinals against East Islip, and also played solid in a 1-0 loss in the Class AA title game.

Boy: Honeoye Falls-Lima boys cross country team, which finished fourth out of 27 teams in the state Federation Championships. Coach Bernie Gardner's team finished higher than any Section V boys team at Federations has since 1989.

Boy: Senior Mike Humphrey caught 12 passes for 153 yards, including a crucial 55-yard catch and run for a score as LeRoy (10-0) beat Oakfield-Alabama, 27-17, for the Class C football championship. It is Le Roy's 14th sectional football title -- most in Section V history.
 
Girl: Hilton senior Stephanie Monnat successfully defended her all-around title and helped lead the Cadets to their third-straight team gymnastics title Wednesday night at SUNY Brockport. Her all-around score of 36.1 points shattered her own season-best, as did her score on the floor (9.425).

Boy: Fairport junior goalie Kyle Metcalfe stopped all 14 shots as the Red Raiders blanked Rush-Henrietta 1-0 Thursday to repeat as Class AAA sectional champions. Metcalfe also shutout Spencerport 1-0 Monday night to advance Fairport into the finals.
 
Girl: Webster Thomas senior Chellie Johnson scored three goals during the Titans' semifinal field hockey win over Gates Chili Tuesday and added two goals during Thomas' 3-0 win over Fairport Friday night to send the Titans to their first ever sectional title game.

October 25, 2008:

Boy: Senior running back Tim Smith scored six touchdowns and had 333 all-purpose yards, including a 91-yard kickoff return for a score, in Oakfield-Alabama's 63-34 win over Dansville in the Section V Class C football quarterfinals.

Girl: Penfield senior Sarah Tranelli shot a 81, including 39 on a windy back nine, at Ridgemont Country Club to win the Section V girls golf championship by four strokes.

October 18, 2008:

Boy: Freddie Thomas soccer player Marcelino Figueroa scored nine goals and added six assists as the Titans went 3-0.

Girl: Webster Thomas junior cross country runner Brianna Deming set a Webster Park course record, running in 18 minutes, 46 seconds Tuesday.

October 14, 2008:

Girl: Bloomfield junior forward Ashley Hastings scored two goals during a 5-0 win over Waterloo and added three goals during a 9-0 win over Desales to help the Bombers improve to 16-0.

Boy: Webster Thomas quarterback Jake Bolan completed 21 of 38 passes for 304 yards and five touchdowns as the Titans won a shootout over Spencerport, 53-43.

October 04, 2008:

Girl: Ashley Hughes, Aquinas soccer. The senior scored two goals and had an assist on Friday as the Little Irish (11-1-2) avenged their only loss with a 5-3 win over Buffalo Nichols.

Boy: Rob Williams, Batavia football. The senior tailback racked up 480 total yards and four TDs as the Blue Devils beat Penn Yan 32-13 on Friday. He rushed for 267 yards and two TDs (86 and 73 yards) and added two kickoff return TDs (90 and 94 yards).

September 27, 2008:

Girl: Webster Thomas senior Abby Kmiecinski led the volleyball Titans to a pair of five-game wins, posting a career-high 20 kills with 31 digs and 3 blocks vs. Greece Athena and recording 37 digs, 12 kills and 5 aces as Thomas rallied from a two-game deficit vs. Greece Arcadia.

Boy: Hilton senior tailback Justin Knorr rushed for a school-record 311 yards and three touchdowns on 39 carries as the Cadets (4-0) beat Pittsford, 37-14, in a battle of unbeaten Monroe County Division I teams.

September 20, 2008:

Boy: Sophomore tailback Dylan Brown rushed for 205 yards and four touchdowns as Brockport rolled Spencerport 41-7 Friday night, Sept. 19. Brown, who scored on runs of 70, 54, 24 and 38 yards, averaged over 20 yards per carry as the Blue Devils improved to 3-0.

Girl: Junior Taryn Schawillie scored on a rebound off her own shot to lead East Rochester past Webster Thomas 4-3 in a matchup of undefeated Monroe County field hockey teams Friday night. Schawille's goal came with 16:03 remaining and helped ER complete the comeback. The Bombers (7-0) never lead until Schawillie's goal.

September 14, 2008:

Boy: Senior quarterback Chris Rose threw for 246 yards and five touchdowns as Victor beat Brighton 53-27 Friday, Sept. 12. Rose threw four TD passes during the second and third quarters.

Girl: Mercy junior forward Mary Kate Tierney scored all three goals during a 3-0 win over Nazareth in the championship of the Newark Soccer Tournament Sept. 13. Tierney earned tournament MVP honors after her three-goal game and her three-assist performance during a 5-1 win in the first round over Greece Olympia.
